Black Technology: Translucent OLED Display

According to The Verge report, nothing can reflect future technology better than a transparent OLED screen. The latest concepts and prototypes at CES in 2022 are created from a 55-inch 1080p OLED panel using the eighth-generation manufacturing process. The transparency is up to 40%.

The most visually striking model is the OLED shelf, which consists of two 55-inch transparent OLED displays, one mounted on top of the other, with a shelf on top. The idea is that, for example, you can display artwork on one screen and display the description of the artwork below. It also has a piece of opaque material that can be rolled down like a sun visor, making the display more like a standard, opaque OLED. At the same time, if the screen is turned off and the opaque material is rolled up, you can see the objects behind the screen, just like a real painting.

The latest transparent "shelf" OLED can display virtual or real artworks

Other displays are more designed for signage and commercial customers. The shopping management display rack can be placed in front of the physical products, adding graphics or effects like VFX smoke to enhance them. At the same time, the display window can display stickers-like graphics in front of clothing or other products, making the display window more attractive. The existing version has been used in a fashion store in Seoul and even in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

Various curved displays, including the concept of a continuous screen wrapped on a fixed bicycle and a curved media chair. The new transparent display is just a concept and prototype, but it told The Verge that it can help customers develop it into a product, and the OLED shelf is ready for production.
